Led by evergreen scrumhalf Mose Timoteo and with collegians Danny Barrett,
Tim Maupin and Michael Haley impressing all day, SFGG swept the day to win
the 1st of three Northern California qualifiers to the Pacific Coast club
7s championships.
SFGG cruised through their pool, which included Santa Rosa,
Sacramento Lions, and the San Jose Seahawks.
"The guys did a really good job of playing to the pattern and Mose and Mile
were great leaders," said Head Coach Jone Naqica. "The college guys were
great and started the last three games, and we had some new guys come off
the bench who did really well."
In the other pool, the East Palo Alto Bulldogs won the pool at 3-0, with
Olympic Club coming second at 2-1. SFGG downed O-Club in the semis while
Santa Rosa, 2-1 in pool play, defeated EPA. Then SFGG torched Santa Rosa in
the final.
Olympic Club got some revenge against the Bulldogs, beating them for
third.
"We were OK on the whole," said Olympic Club 7s Coach Matt Sherman. "We
were missing a few guys with injury, but we got better as the day went
on."
This series will decide what four teams will take on four from the Pacific
Northwest in Seattle July 20. At stake on that date will be two seeds to
the national championships.
