Old Blue has performed well on a national scale in recent years. In 2012 the club won the Northeast series and finished fourth nationally. In 2013 they defended their NRU title and took third place in the country.
This year they bolster another strong roster with a wealth of new talent. Head Coach Stephen Lewis says that the club is, “looking forward to maintaining Old Blue’s reputation by continuing to represent the northeast on a national stage.”
They will compete in the Rockaway 7s this weekend to help prepare them for the NRU Qualifiers.
Coaching Staff: Head 7s Coach - Stephen Lewis, Assistant Player Coach - Dom Wareing
Returning Players to watch
Derek Lipscomb: Lipscomb will play on the wing this summer. He supports a large frame with great pace. Look for him to be a top try scorer for Old Blue.
Dan Freed-Pastor: Dan is a forward with a high work-rate. He’s a strong and vocal leader on the pitch.
Dom Wareing: As a player-coach Dom brings great leadership, decision-making, and playmaking ability to the squad.
James Bird: Bird possesses great ball skills and can make defenders miss with a violent side-step.
Jordan Badia-Bellinger: Jordan has been sidelined by an injury for the past few months, but has a large, solid frame with deceptive speed. He brings size and physicality to the 7s pitch.
Bobby McMahon: McMahon, also coming back from a recent injury, is another large forward that is a force in the contact area. Look for McMahon to be contesting the ball in the air on restarts.
Luke Hume: When Luke Hume returns to New York expect him to be back on the 7s pitch for Old Blue. As a capped USA Eagle in 7s and 15s, look for him to be an electric try scorer with fantastic footwork.
Notable New Players
Mike St. Claire: The Stony Brook graduate is making the switch from Long Island to Old Blue. St. Claire is a very talented runner with great speed. He should definitely be a top try-scorer this summer.
Marcus Henderson: The speedster out of Stanford U will be featured on the wing this summer.
Nate Augspurger: The capped USA 7s Eagle is coming off of a great tournament at the Elite City 7s in Houston. He will be another electric weapon in attack for Old Blue.
Morgan Findlay: The New Zealander out of Lindenwood University had some phenomenal individual efforts in attack for NY at the Super Sevens exhibition. He has a powerful side-step and great pace.
Christian Adams: The AIC winger is dangerous with the ball in hand.
Andy Kozak: The Stony Brook graduate has a high-work rate and phenomenal fitness.
Notable Players that will NOT be returning this season
Gareth Stoppani and Mike Oliver: Both returned to the United Kingdom.
James Harris: Unavailable this season.
