Games are being played, teams are winning and losing, but there's still little movement in our Top 25. Why? Our ranked teams aren't losing very often, and when they do lose, it's to a team ranked higher than them already. With the ACRC bowl weekend and a few more compelling non-conference games in the coming weeks, there will be plenty of chance for our rankings to prove themselves accurate, or... Read More
Two new teams join the Top 25 this week, and they both hail from south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Louisiana Tech represents the Deep South, and Furman represents the Southern Conference. Both are undefated in league play.
If scores against common opponents mean anything, Furman looks to be closer to UNC-Wilmington than in the recent past, and UNCW has proven itself in the postseason. Louisiana Tech... Read More
There's literally just one move to be made this week, with Air Force knocking out previously-No. 25 Colorado State. The Rams spent just one week in the rankings after clobbering rival Colorado, but the Zoomies took commanding control of the West by hanging 66 points on CSU Saturday. The win makes Air Force look formidable, and we should find out just how formidable this weekend, when the Zoomies... Read More
There are so many massive blowouts in DII, that it's hard to discern whether a UW-Whitewater or Illinois State 107-point win is more impressive than that 118-point UM-Duluth win, or if a 74-0 shutout for Vassar should carry more weight than an 99-3 Fairfield win or an 84-7 result for Holy Cross.
That's where conferences like the New England are refreshing. A very strong conference traditionally... Read More
Though it's pretty boring one-through-eleven, there have been some interesting results involving teams further down the rankings, and plenty of eye-openers just outside the Top 25.
The highest match between ranked teams on the weekend featured Penn State and Army. The Nittany Lions were a couple of spots higher going into it, but a four-point win pushes the Black Knights ahead of PSU. In getting... Read More
(The original version of this article incorrectly stated Colorado College had gone NSCRO. Colorado College is competing as a DII independent.)
The first DII rankings of the year, moreso than their DI counterparts, are predicated off of the previous season's results. We now have a few weeks of current results in the books, and the turnover of college rugby has apparently taken its toll in some... Read More
The college rugby season is still very young, as a handful of the top DI conferences kickoff this weekend, but there has been plenty of action since our last ranking. The only significant upset featured Penn State knocking off Davenport.
The Nittany Lions didn't just beat the Panthers, they beat them 30-3. DU all-everything flyhalf JP Eloff was on the sideline during the contest, as he's still... Read More
While more than half the country is ramping up its preseason preparations with the hopes of playing 15s deep into November, some of the best teams in the country are inching their way into the fall semester with an eye toward development and the spring season. That's the world of college rugby we live in these days, which means we're ranking teams who won't play meaningful rugby for another seven... Read More
DII College Rugby gets underway in earnest over the next two weeks, so this ranking is very much a preseason list. UW-Whitewater and Salisbury top it, as they were the two best teams in the country last year.
While we heavily weighed last seasons' final rankings in creating this Top 25, it's not the only information taken into account. UMKC, for example, joins the rankings for the first time in... Read More
It's still very early, but already the cream is rising to the top in the summer 7s season. Most series are just a tournament or two in. In both the Northeast and Midwest, one team has won every tournament so far. The Chicago Lions won both Milwaukee and Madison qualifiers and tied for first in the Chicago tournament that was called early for poor weather. In the Northeast, Old Blue is two-for-two... Read More
