It's been two weeks since we last ranked college 7s teams, and that delay
is telling in a number of ways.
First off, it helps us
illustrate how drastically things can change week-to-week. This week,
Lindenwood drops because they didn't do well in a relatively informal
tournament that included Arkansas State, Davenport, and Oklahoma. But
Lindenwood were without their best player... Read More
At this point in the fall it’s anyone’s game. Any team in the top ten could
potentially win a national championship, and so far most teams have done
something very positive, and one or two things that drag them down a
Arkansas State, having won two tournaments in a row, and having
beaten Life in the last one, jump to #1. St. Mary’s is a bit of a
crap-shoot. Yes they won the... Read More
People should take notice of UCLA in their victory
in the West Coast 7s. Certainly you could argue that Cal used some younger
players, and UCLA beat them by just a try, but the Bruins also shut out
several very strong teams – only Cal scored on them. It seems only fair to
push UCLA to #1.

Ranking the college 7s teams at this early stage is … risky. We are judging
some teams on perhaps one tournament played against middling opposition, or
maybe we’re ranking a team based on last year’s performances, graduations
Ranking on potential is a dangerous move, and
still we have unknowns. Delaware is not playing rugby, Arkansas State is
getting a new coach,... Read More
Another weekend down, and the Chicago Lions and Belmont Shore
continue to sit atop their respective qualifier standings and our rankings.
The Lions have now won all three Midwest qualifiers, and done so in
Sitting right behind the Lions in the Midwest standings are the Milwaukee

Massive changes in the HS Club
rankings because of the results at the NIT.
United, which lost to Herriman twice in Utah, thus moving them
down, beat #1. #2 and #3 to win the NIT. Amazing performance. We
still think Cathedral is #2, but then things go haywire. Given that
Danville almost beat Cathedral (game went to OT), and... Read More
Well you might say it wasn't a
National Championship because it didn't include a play-in for every
region, but the old USA Rugby National HS Championship didn't
either. Many regions in America opted out of the final tournament
simply because it didn't fit in with their schedule, or was too
expensive... Read More
Almost everyone at the top did what
was expected, and that, ins some ways, includes Herriman. We long
suspected that Herriman's earlier 24-20 loss to Snow Canyon was not
going to be repeated. That turned out to be the case - Herriman beat
Snow Canyon well 41-19 to win the Utah state title.
As a result, Herriman can now bump up to where we think... Read More
No big shifts, although we drop
North Park out after a big loss in the Pennsylvania playoffs. We
have a lot of candidates to move in, and so choose none. It's a
crowded place in the 30s.

Major adjustments in the HS Club
rankings as several teams were upset. Danville's run ended early
and they drop precipitously out of #3.
By virtue of beating them, Islanders move up, and Peninsula Green,
who almost beat the Islanders a week before, follow them.
San Diego Mustangs move up due to strong results, as do NOVA... Read More
