The morning after the USA Eagles lost to the New Zealand Maori 54-7 in Chicago, I had a conversation with someone from World Rugby. He wondered how much good a big loss like that does for the Eagles and rugby in America. I was reminded of that conversation by my brother Ethan’s reaction to the recent loss to Ireland. We discuss the match in the latest episode of The Carter Divide.

The episode is on iTunesStitcherSound Cloud, and here.

Because the venue was good, the crowd size was good, and there were reasons to cheer for the Eagles during the big loss, I deemed the match a success overall. However, it is Ethan’s reaction that is much more important in terms of determining what kind of benefit or harm comes from a lopsided match.
