It’s first place for Boston as they defeated rivals the Boston Irish Wolfhounds to move to 6-0 in the Northeast DI club league, but it wasn’t easy.
After running out to a 17-0 lead early on, Boston saw the Wolfhounds claw back into the game and threaten to take the lead. Only a late try from flyhalf Niko Ratumaitavuki gave them enough for a cushion to hold on 25-14.
“Our backs were playing well, but then the Wolfhounds started to slow the
game down and do a lot of pick-and-goes,” said Boston scrumhalf Sean
Treacy. “We defended well when they were on our line, but it was
frustrating then to see them score from a long way out later. Fortunately,
Niko scored and that got us the bonus point and kind of put them
Treacy said the Boston team was guilty of forcing passes, and a little bit of patience might have seen them score more.
Even so, with NYAC idle, Boston moves into 1st in the league. Right behind them is Old Blue, which defeated White Plains 43-12 to move to 5-1.
Also winners on the day were Mystic River, which defeated Middlesex 38-29.
