Metropolis capped of Rugby Day in Minnesota by beating the Chicago Griffins 33-10 to remain undefeated in Midwest DI club league play.
The Rugby Day was an event held at the University of Minnesota, with UM men and women, Eastside Banshees, and Metropolis showcasing the game all day (look for a special on this day in the next RUGBY Magazine).
With the bonus-point victory (Metropolis scored five tries), the Minneapolis team is a perfect 7-0 and eight points clear of the #2 team, Columbus.
Columbus did well for themselves also, beating the Chicago Lions 35-32 in the Windy City. It was a dogged effort by the Lions, but the Columbus backs are just too much.
And storming back from an 0-2 start are the Kansas City Blues. The Blues fielded an all-local squad this weekend and were without Ed Mills, off with the USA Selects team at the ARC. Still they handed Cincinnati their 7th loss 43-28.
They were led by big, rangy lock Brody Orth, former running back Gannon Moore was a terror on attack at center, and flyhalf John Knutsen, a new player from Kansas State University, also played well in the effort.
With that result, Kansas City is now 3rd at 4-2, and they have a game in hand on 4th-place Milwaukee, as well as Columbus and Metropolis.
