SFGG moved to 2-0 in the Elite Cup with a 29-23 defeat of the Denver Barbarians in Denver.

The Barbarians defense was impressive, especially in the first half, and Denver led 15-12 at the break.

"They disrupted us big-time," said SFGG Head Coach Grant Wells. "We couldn't really get into any sort of pattern."

At halftime, the San Francisco club decided to simplify things. They kept the ball tight, using their big forwards to get some go-forward, and then spinning the ball wide when the chance was there.

Fullback Heine McFarland was outstanding, and received player of the game honors, while flanker Danny LaPrevotte and No. 8 Tevita Koloamatangi were also outstanding for SFGG.

With two tries from wing Jeff Van Meter, SFGG scored three tries in the second half and held Denver to just eight points to win.

Denver, which got three tries from Phillip White, drops to 1-1, and faces a game with Old Puget Sound Beach to get a semifinal spot.
