The US Military Academy defeated the US Naval Academy 34-27, holding off a late Navy comeback to secure 1st place in the Rugby East conference of the College Premier Division.

With the victory, Army clinches a home playoff game against the University of Utah, whose ticket was officially punched with BYU's win over Arizona State Saturday.

Navy, meanwhile, gets to fly to Provo to take on BYU.

The other two matchups for the May 7 playoffs were finalized last week: Life at Cal, and St. Mary's at Arkansas State.

"The guys worked hard, especially on defense," said Army assistant coach Justin Hundley. "We got a couple of breaks - a try on a quick tap and Ben [Leatigaga] scored on an intercept. But it all came from good work on defense."

"There weren't a ton of turnovers in this match, it was a really well-played game," added Army Head Coach Rich Pohlidal. "But the turnovers that did happen made a huge difference."

Navy was right on the Army line as the game ended, and were called for a knock-on just as they were close to scoring what might have been the tying try. Navy Head Coach Mike Flanagan said he can't worry about that, he has to take him team to play BYU.

"It was a great game," he said. "I would have liked us to win but the I am proud of the players for how hard they battled and what they put into the game. Now we have a short week to get ready for BYU."
