The D1A bracket has been set, and although the first round is slated for April 15th, two games were played April 8th, as regular season clashes between BYU and Colorado State and Lindenwood versus Davenport were repurposed as playoff games. BYU won 93-3, and Lindenwood won 36-14, meaning they've advanced to the quarterfinals.

It appears geography was the most prevalent factor in designing the bracket, as one side is more competitively lopsided than the other. On one side, that with BYU, Life, Indiana and Lindenwood, all four quarterfinalists are in the D1A's internal ranking's top 10. On the other side, at least two and maybe three out of four quarterfinalists are ranked outside the top 10. On the western side, a team ranked no better than 14th is guaranteed to make the semifinals.

Saturday the quarterfinal match-ups will be set, with the winner between Utah and San Diego State drawing St. Mary's, and the victor between Air Force and Arizona taking on Baylor. The finals are set for May 6th at St. Mary's, and it will be aired live on CBS Sports Network.

Well, this is hardly fair. the Eastern Bracket will be in dog fights from the quarters through the semi's and St. Mary's gets much lower ranked opponents and the final at home. This was the final that was suppose to be on the East Coast seeing it was at St. Marys' last year but that is the sacrifice for CBS. The Brackets are just to ensure that BYU a WESTERN Team, does not upset the brackets before the final. Life, the defending National Champion and unbeaten since the championship in 2015 has to play the much tougher bracket and travel while St. Mary's who lost to BYU gets much lower ranked opponents and gets to stay at home.
