USA Rugby unveiled the DIAA bracket Spring Playoff bracket this week and will begin with games this weekend. Eight teams made the post season, split between two regionals, one in Long Beach, Calif., and Lawrence, Kan.
Western Washington came out of the NCRC, going undefeated in the process. Nevada finished second in a tightly contested PAC West to earn a playoff spot.
The winner of the PAC West, Chico State, will take on Gold Coast winner Long Beach State. The Dirt bags technically did not win their division, but Claremont Colleges opted to remain in the NSCRO playoffs again this year to defend their title.
The winners will face off on Sunday.
Dartmouth claimed the Ivy League last fall but due to academic issues with the Ivy schools, the conference needed to remain in the spring playoffs. It is the first time in five years that the Big Green will be playing in a USA Rugby playoff. Dartmouth had been facing off with all DIA teams in the Varsity Cup and could very well win a national title. Dartmouth, does however, seem to be having a down year as they have struggled against teams like Army, Cal, and Navy.
Dartmouth will take on Heart of America champions Missouri. Missouri will be looking to make a return to the final four after beating Brown last year.
Central Florida came out of the very competitive SIRC. UCF defeated an undefeated Middle Tennessee State and knocked off last year’s spring finalist to represent the conference. Kansas finished second in HOA and got the at large bid to take on UCF.
The spring championship will take place on 4/21 and the winner will take on the fall winner Mary Washington on June 3 to crown a true national champion.
