The men’s division two college bracket has been released with a 23 team field making the playoffs. It is shaping up to be the most competitively balanced field in the history of DII.
All of the conferences except the Deep South are represented. The Great Midwest and Cardinals Conference received three bids each while Rugby Northeast, MARC, NEWCRC and Great Lakes all earned two bids.
Iowa Central is the lone independent team to get in.
Fourteen teams will kickstart the postseason this coming Saturday with play in games.
UW-Milwaukee who took home third place in the Great Midwest will take on Gateway champion St. Louis this weekend. The winner will get Great Lakes champions Bethel the following week
Defending champions Wisconsin Whitewater will take on the Rocky Mountain champions Montana State on November 17.
Furman will battle Queens College in a play in game for the right to take on Norwich.
The other play in game in this region sees Marquette, who was runner up in the Great Midwest, take on second place of the Great Lakes, Ferris State.
The winner will face MARC winner Villanova.
Upstate New York winner Geneseo takes on Rugby Northeast number two Bentley this weekend. The winner will get NC State, who is fresh off a trio of wins in the Cardinals playoffs.
William Paterson won the Tri-State and will take on former conference rivals Sacred Heart in the play in. Sacred Heart took home second place in the NEWCRC.
The winner will see Southern champions UNC-Charlotte.
This appears to be the toughest bracket in the group. Iowa Central will travel to IUPUI to take on the Jaguars in what will be a very hotly contested game.
The winner will take on North Dakota State a week later.
Vermont will await the winner of the UVA and Bloomsburg, who were both runner up in their respective conferences.
