The DII Conferences are starting to wind down and really take shape. A number of marquee matchups took place over the weekend, setting things up as we head down the stretch.

The NECRC is the most competitive conference in the country arguably. Most of the games are within a try and this week was no different. Vermont avenged an early season loss to Rhode Island and Norwich scored late to get by Middlebury 23-18.

Down South, a rare Thursday game had major playoff implications. UNC-Charlotte has been impressive this season and had the opportunity to put the country on notice with a win against Furman. The Paladins ultimately came away with the 13-5 win but it was close and they had to earn it.

The New England Wide will have a new conference champions this year. Newcomers Coast Guard and the University of Hartford both sit at 4-0 and are on a collision course in two weeks. Hartford handed last year’s conference champions, Springfield, its second loss of the season in a 20-10 affair. Hartford fell to Springfield 28-6 last year and has made impressive gains this season.

Rugby Northeast saw a duel in the rematch of the conference championship. UMass-Lowell won last year and once again one upped Salve Regina 32-26. Both teams, however, are still chasing Bentley for the top spot.

In the Tri-State, Sacred Heart moved into first place in the northern division thanks to a convincing victory over Marist and a Siena victory over RPI. Sacred Heart has a date with RPI next weekend to determine who takes the top spot. In the south, William Paterson continues to dominate the league, moving to 4-0.
