Division II started in earnest this week with every conference getting under way. There were some traditional powers flexing their muscles and some up and comers putting their hand up to be respected.

All four of the final four participants from last season picked up wins. The defending national champions, Wisconsin Whitewater, handed UW-Stout 89-5 while Furman put up 50 points on Greensboro by minute 31. Duluth blasted North Dakota and Norwich won comfortably over Southern Connecticut.

Several teams played ranked teams very tough. In the WIIL conference, Marquette surprised Northern Iowa with a 17-15 win. Similarly, in the New England Wide, Quinnipiac tied sixth ranked Coast Guard 19-19 to open conference action.

The most intriguing game of the weekend was in the Cardinal Conference. NC State and VMI, both contenders to take home the division title, squared off early in the season. The Wolf Pack edged VMI 34-29.

A couple of teams have impressed early on. Oswego State, in Upstate New York, won comfortably for the second consecutive week. Appalachian State, in the Southern Conference moved to 3-0 with another convincing win.
