The DII College Season got under way with several conferences starting conference play. Additionally, a number of schools took on some DI opponents to get ready for division play starting next weekend.

Three conferences got under way this weekend. The Rocky Mountain and Gateway conferences only featured one game while the Southern Conference was scheduled with a full slate of contests.

Furman opened up its 2017 season with a strong 50-0 win over Western Carolina. The other games saw two forfeits and three postponements.

In the lone game in the Rocky Mountain Conference, Western State started the defense of its title with a 64-5 win over Colorado Mesa.

Missouri S&T made a strong statement in the Gateway Conference. After winning the conference two years ago S&T surprisingly fell in the playoffs and Principia managed to take the playoff berth from the conference. The Miners got some revenge out this weekend, blasting Principia 50-3.

A few other DII teams tested themselves against DI opponents. Pitt State fell to Lindenwood-Belleville 56-12 while the University of Hartford played in a round robin at Yale.

Most conferences get under way next week.
