DII Men’s College has gotten under way and the last couple weeks have provided little insight into the current power structure. With a number of teams leaving for DI and a couple coming down to DII, the rankings look quite a bit different than how they ended last season.
Minnesota-Duluth and UW-Whitewater still sit at one and two respectively, but with Salisbury, Towson and Lindenwood-Belleville all leaving for DI-AA the top ten is a little different. Rowan slots in at number three after losing a thrilling elite eight game to Towson last year 44-41 and Grand Valley State comes in at number four.
Middlebury and North Carolina State have dropped down to compete in DII and both are ranked. Middlebury was once a force in DII, winning a national championship nearly a decade ago, and finds itself at number seven. The Wolf Pack sits at 14 after beating ODU 40-13.
A pair of DII teams defeated DI competitors. The Coast Guard beat up USMMA and Spring Hill defeated Alabama in thrilling fashion 38-37. Spring Hill is playing an independent schedule this season and came away with an impressive win.
Norwich outlasted another elite eight team from last year in Rhode Island. URI played Whitewater tough and is expected to compete for a place in the final four. A win for Norwich here puts it at 11 overall.
The Southern Conference is the most represented to start 2016 as seven teams from the conference are currently represented.
