Duluth with ball against Whitewater in final

As we enter November, most DII conferences are completing their schedule while others have already begun conference playoffs. All are hoping to secure their place in the final 16 and compete for a National Title at Furman University. With the likes of NDC and James Madison opting for DI, there has been a bit of a shake up this season.

Two time defending National Champions, Minnesota-Duluth has continued its winning ways and claims the top spot in the rankings. The Fighting Penguins have yet to be tested in the Northern Lights.

UW-Whitewater, who has been a consistent final four participant and last year's runner up, is undefeated in the WILL Conference and slots in at number two. WILL is the best conference on paper as four teams have made our Top 25. In its inaugural season, Lindenwood-Belleville is already showing it can be a force in DII. Belleville sits at number seven in our rankings and are joined by Northern Iowa and Northern Michigan from that conference.

The traditional powerhouses from the Capital Conference(formerly Potomac), Salisbury and Towson slot in at 3rd and 5th respectively, while Georgetown comes in at 16.

With James Madison leaving the Cardinal Conference, VMI has taken control of the league and has been impressive this season. Another service academy, the Coast Guard, fellow northeastern rugby opponent Rhode Island and East Carolina round out the top 10.

A handful of undefeated teams make of a portion of the latter half of the top 25. The staff at Rugby Today will need to see more from these teams as they play in conferences are not as strong traditionally. As the playoffs begin, these teams will have an opportunity to test their mettle against tough competition.
