Lindenwood University is hosting a free clinic Saturday in Oahu, Hawaii in an effort to recruit the talent-rich state of Hawaii.
Running the clinic on the ground will be Lindenwood director of rugby JD Stephenson, and local coach Nusi Takuafu will be managing the event. Stephenson will put as many as 75 players through a skills clinic in the morning before staging matches in the afternoon. Juniors and seniors interested in continuing their education while palying rugby in college are encouraged to turn up.
Lindenwood already has a number of Hawaiians on the roster, including No. 8 Tama Paogofie-Buyten. Mid-South rival Arkansas State has also succesfully recruited from the island state, and Central Washington has pulled in players like Vili Toluta'u and Fitou Fisiiahi, though this clinic by Lindenwood is perhaps the first effort to systematically recruit Hawaii by an American collegiate rugby program.
