On June 22-24, 134 of the best NSCRO men’s players in America, representing 44 different schools in five geographic areas (Northeast, LoneStar, Pacific Coast, Mid-South and South), will descend upon the city of Round Rock, Texas to face off and find out which region will be crowned the NSCRO All-Star Champion in this inaugural championship event.
Ten grueling matches over two days will determine which two teams will challenge for the right to claim the title of the “Best small college rugby region in America” in Sunday’s final.
“It’s going to be exciting to see these regional rivalries emerge. Competition breeds success. It is our goal by having these regions competing against one another. It will provide an experience that will serve to inspire the players to keep rugby in their lives after graduation – as a player, referee, coach, administrator, or even just as a fan,” said Jeremy Treece, NSCRO Director of Rugby Development.
Treece created this event to establish a high performance pathway and help foster growth in this area for NSCRO players. NSCRO and USA Rugby are currently working together to provide high performance opportunities for the top players in NSCRO.
“NSCRO has a lot of really talented rugby players that often get overlooked. Some players may play on a team that never gets to a playoff; some are on a team where geographically no scouts ever attend. By bringing all these fantastic players to one event, we can celebrate, evaluate and recognize these young players’ achievements,” says Treece.
All matches will be played at the brand new Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on their beautiful championship field. NSCRO has partnered with Major League Rugby team, the Austin Elite, who will co-host this event.
“We are looking forward to seeing NSCRO’s best, and who knows? We may find a player or two that may someday play for a MLR team,” says Thierry Daupin, general manager of the Austin Elite.
This event will also coincide with the largest 7’s tournament in Texas, the 21st Annual Bloodfest 7s Rugby Tournament, hosted by the Austin Huns Rugby Football Club on Saturday, June 23rd. If you’re a rugby fan Round Rock will be the place to be from June 22nd - 24th.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance via sales link at https://austineliterugby.cloudvenue.co.uk/nscroallstarchampionship. The cost is $15 for a 3-day pass or $10/day (Saturday is free). Limited edition T-shirts for this event can also be purchased here: https://shop.austineliterugby.com/collections/men/products/nscro.
