A week after beating San Diego State last week Santa Clara followed that up with a 27-22 defeat of UC Davis to move to 2-0 and take over 1st place in the California Conference.

"We're focusing on just doing the right things," said Santa Clara Head Coach Paul Keeler. "Our lineout's playing really well. But it's more about belief. I think the guys have started to believe that they can play well and should play well. During our 7s season in the fall we had some good results, beat Cal Poly and pushed UCLA. I think that was the beginning."

Paced by the solid play of Jimmy Summer, freshman Jack O'Hara, and captain Kyle Dunne, the Broncos are nicely-placed in the conference, However, they have yet to face Cal Poly and St. Mary's. Certainly the Mustangs and the Gaels will be favored in those matchups, but perhaps not by as much as a few weeks ago.
