NC State defeated old DII foe Georgia Tech 34-6 in Atlanta Saturday to open their ACRL season. The Wolfpack last met GTech in the opening round of the 2010 South DII playoffs, dispatching of them fairly easily. Saturday, however, NC State crawled out of the gate and led just 12-6 at halftime.

“We started off pretty slow. I don’t think we were very comfortable. We have a pretty consistent game style we weren’t comfortable with in the first half, but once we got a little bit of a lead we kind of settled down and got back into our game plan,” said NC State president Bryan Maxwell.

“After halftime we kind of pulled away with it, settled down and got back into our game style. We have a very organized gameplan, whereas in the first half we were trying to run the ball any chance we could get, but in the second half we got back into an organized style.”

NC State will have to start and finish organized if they hope to improve to 2-0 next week, when they host Virginia. Georgia Tech, now 1-1 in conference play, is off until Clemson visits Atlanta March 12.
