Tennessee and Florida banked lopsided wins in the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference Saturday. The two other games on the SCRC slate, Kentucky vs. Mississippi State and Alabama vs. Auburn, were postponed.

The Volunteers traveled to South Carolina and pounded the Gamecocks 71-7. The win all but wraps up the Eastern Division for Tennessee, who has now beaten its two ranked division opponents.

Florida, smarting after a 20-12 loss to Tennessee last week, took out its frustrations on Vanderbilt, beating the Commodores 60-7.

“It was important to get the win going, but the most important thing was we were really trying to work on playing together, playing as a team,” said Gators coach Ken Simmons. “Just trying to get better each week. I think we did OK.”

Doing better than OK for Florida was inside center Jason Lentz, who scored four tries against Vandy.

“He’s a truck. He’s a load. It was on support play he got two of his tries, not just a feed from the fullback,” said Simmons. “It was more on the second or third phases where he came right on in support and drove through the line. He’s just a load to bring down.”

The win pushes Florida to 2-1.
