Jessica Javelet and Amelia Villines have left the 7s setup at the Olympic Training Center. Villines chose to walk away prior to Atlanta 7s last month, and Javelet left following the tournament.

Javelet joined the team ahead of the inaugural Atlanta 7s in 2014, exploding onto the scene with seven tries in her first-ever rugby tournament. She competed in Brazil that season, but missed the final two tournaments in China and the Netherlands because of availability.

This season Javelet was selected for each of the three tournaments prior to this weekend’s Canada 7s, and she started every game from the season opener in Dubai through pool play in Atlanta before being moved to the bench for the Cup quarters, semis and final. Javelet then left the team, which finished second at its home tournament and climbed to fifth in the Series standings.

Villines was selected for all five tournaments in the 2014/2015 Series, actually captaining the Eagles in a couple of them. She was also selected for the current season opener in Dubai, but then missed out on both the Brazil and Atlanta tours.

Both departures come as a surprise, given the playing time doled out to both Villines and Javelet over the last two seasons, but they both left on their own volition for unconfirmed reasons. The release of Javelet apparently came as a surprise to even World Rugby, which ran the below video profile of Javelet earlier this week as promotional material ahead of this weekend’s tournament.
