USA flanker Scott LaValla gets moved to lock this weekend.

Brian Doyle injured his rotator cuff against Tonga and is out long-term. Head Coach Mike Tolkin decided to bring Peter Dahl in at flanker and move LaValla, who has played lock, flanker and No. 8 for the USA, to the second row.

That’s not problem for LaValla, who is expected to partner with Lou Stanfill provide a good shove against a hefty Romania pack. That’s a bit part of the game, but so is the rest of the match.

“I think collectively we want to eliminate those little errors that contributed in a big way to our loss to Tonga,” said LaValla, adding examples such as: “handling, defensive shape, shape in attack.  If we can nail those things, I think we'll be in a good place.”

Notes: Scott LaValla’s father, Rick, is a big USA cheerleader, and also a cheerleader for the Budd Bay Rugby Club, where Scott played U19 rugby. Rick was in Wales to support the Eagles, and took with him a Budd Bay Rugby banner, which was displayed at the Colwyn Bay Rugby Club clubhouse.

“My Dad is all about promoting Budd Bay Rugby internationally,” said Scott.
