Blaine Scully’s Achilles heel injury is a massive blow to a player who looked set to reclaim his spot on the national 7s team.
Combined with his work at fullback for the USA during Chris Wyles’s injury, Scully has been an excellent performer in both 15s and 7s for the past 13 months. However, injury kept him out of the IRB World Series, and just as he was ready to play again, injury has him out for possibly as long as a year.
“You just feel awful for Blaine,” said new USA 7s team Head Coach Alex Magleby. “He has worked awfully hard to come back, and then a freak accident puts him down. I guess the good thing was that it happened at the Olympic Training Center and we were able to get him into surgery right away.”
Magleby said Scully has a very positive attitude and is determined to come back stronger. “He is going to work his tail off to get back, and I know he will be working on other things as he rehabs his injury.”
