According to multiple reports, the North American Olympic rugby qualifier will be held WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., just outside of Raliegh, this June. The event, tentatively scheduled for June 11-14, will be hosted by NACRA, with the winners of each punching their tickets to Rio 2016.

“[USA Rugby] likes our area, they’re familiar with the soccer park and think that it would be a great location,” Hill Carrow, CEO of the Triangle Sports Commission, said in one report. “They know TSC is one of 10 Community Olympic Partners with the U.S. Olympic Committee so that means we have a strong focus on promoting and supporting Olympic sport activities.”

$115,000 was approved by a local Town Council to cover the costs of the event, and TSC is to reimburse the town 100-percent.

The men’s and women’s tournament will both have 12-team fields, with the United States and Canada expected to be the frontrunners for Olympic qualification. Should any of the USA’s or Canada’s men’s or women’s teams finish fourth in the Sevens World Series Standings at the end of the season, they will qualify for the Olympics without having to participate in Raleigh.
