Team USA dropped their final match of pool play to Argentina 33-10, to finish the preliminary round 0-5. As a result, they will compete for 5th Place at 4AM Eastern Time against Japan for their final match of the Youth Olympic Games. The United States were still forced to compete with nine players, as their roster has been punctured with several unfortunate injuries.

Against Argentina, the American boys displaced some great flashes of brilliance, but could not bring it all together for a full fourteen minutes. Argentina scored in the first minute of the game on a beautiful team try to take a 7-0. Shortly after the subsequent kickoff, Argentina stepped through several USA defenders. Despite a great try-saving tackle by Jojo Tikoisuva, Argentina scored and converted on the following phase. The United States answered with a try just before half. Scrumhalf Junior Helu ran weak off a five-meter scrum to score in the corner and narrow the score to 14-5.

Moments into the second half the American defenders were viciously stepped multiple times again, letting in a converted try. Keeping the US hopes alive, Aaron Matthews ran a deceptive dummy switch with scrumhalf Brian Hannon, and scampered through to score. Aaron Matthews has been an electric try-scorer for the entire Youth Olympic Games. Despite his efforts, missed tackles continued to haunt the American defense as Argentina ran in two more tries to win by a score of 33-10.

In the other pool matches, France defeated Japan 28-7 and Fiji fell to Kenya 17-12.
