The United States women cruised through pool play with a 3-0 record at the NACRA 7s Olympic Qualifier in Cary, NC. The Eagles scored a staggering 169 points while conceding none on the afternoon.
The United jumped out to a 31-0 lead against Jamaica in the opening game of pool play. Lauren Doyle opened the scoring on a well-executed switch and Kelly Griffin doubled the lead at the three-minute mark. Doyle added two more to complete the hat trick in the first half and Griffin doubled her total to account for the first half points.
The Eagles went into cruise control in the second stanza scoring twice in the opening three minutes. The US had several other opportunities to score in at the end of the game but settled for a 45-0 opening round victory.
Kate Zachary started the try frenzy off the opening kickoff against Barbados. The Eagles proved to be too fast and too strong for the Island nation, scoring 74 points in the victory. In all, eight Eagles dotted down a total of 11 tries.
In the final game of the day, the Eagles dismantled the Cayman Islands 50-0. Kristen Thomas got the Eagles on board in the opening minute before Kate Zachary doubled the lead to 14-0. Richelle Stephens put in the third of the half and assisted on Thomas’ second to end the half at 26-0. Stephens earned her second right out of the gate in the second half and the Eagles added two more to cap off the dominant afternoon.
With the win, the Eagles clinched first place in the pool A and will play the second place finisher of Pool B on Sunday.
