Charlotte Catholic won its fifth-straight North Carolina State Championship Saturday with a 57-0 defeat of Providence. Providence beat Concord 20-15 and North Guilford 18-12 to reach the final. Catholic, with a bye in the first round, beat West Meck 38-7 in its semifinal.

Catholic, whose only loss this season came at the hands of Gonzaga (D.C.), and they hope to redeem that defeat at the National Invitational Tournament.

“It’s really a testament to how hard the boys work year in and year out,” Cougars coach Brandon Keane told the Charlotte Observer. “It was kids that asked to have this team started 10 years ago and they’ve really taken ownership of it and taken it forward. The success is down to their dedication.”
