In a development that can only be good for world rugby, the 2020 Olympic Summer Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan.

The International Olympic Committee completed its voting Saturday, and chose Tokyo over Istanbul and Madrid.

Japan is a much stronger rugby nation than either Turkey or Spain, and in addition, Tokyo will host the Rugby World Cup in 15s in 2019.

IRB CEO Brett Gosper tweeted "IRB and #RugbyWorldCup very excited by Tokyo 2020 Olympic Decision by IOC.)

IRB Chairman Bernard Lapasset added that "hosting [the] RWC and Olympic Games Rugby Sevens in consecutive years [in Japan] presents a golden opportunity."
