Moving to New Zealand has had benefits for two USA national team players, but in different ways.
Last season both prop Eric Fry and flanker Taylor Mokate went to New Zealand and ended up playing for Old Boys-University in the Wellington area. They both earned a place on an area select side, and came back to play for the USA in excellent rugby shape.
Fry has since signed with the Manawatu Turbos. He will finish out the season with Old Boys, but then will make the move to Palmerston North. The Turbos play in what used to be called the NPC, and is now called the ITM Cup. It's a huge step up for Fry, as he will now play in the level just below Super Rugby.
Meanwhile Mokate is back in the USA. After his performances for the USA, he has apparently been signed to a contract with the USA 7s team and is moving to San Diego to train at the Olympic Training Center.
