The USA Falcons are into the final of the men's NACRA 7s after handling Barbados 26-5 in the semis.
They will face, as expected, the Canada Maple Leafs, who thrashed Trinidad & Tobago 38-0 and have looked just that little bit more difficult to score on than the Americans.
The Falcons scored early, smartly recycling - something they hadn't done much of - and then setting up Carlin Isles for a try.
But Barbados replied, asking questions of the USA defense and scoring in the corner. Still the Americans played with the cockiness of a team winning easy games and thinking that means they're good. When they reverted to smart, basic rugby, they did well. Nice hands out to Carlin Isles in their own 22 allowed the speedster to outpace two defenders who seemingly had the angle on him.
Then, the same in the second half. This time, Isles had a lot more work to do, but his weaving and juking completely flummoxed the Barbadian defenders. Isles was clear on a brilliant try.
That made it 19-5, and a Ryan Matyas try capped it off.
Good enough, perhaps, but still the USA had moments of vulnerability.
