USA Head Coach Mike Tolkin was very pleased to see one of his teams get a victory.
For the USA Selects, this was the team’s first victory in the ARC since 2011, and a very welcome one.
“The boys played with passion, and had better width, launch on defense, and
better tackling,” said the coach.
They took the heart the admonitions from Tolkin and forwards coach Justin Fitzpatrick that they play with more grit, and that shocked the Canadians, to a certain extent.
Offensively, the Americans showed their athleticism and speed, if not their precision.
“We had some decent wide movements and challenges on high balls,” said Tolkin, singling out Cam Dolans “extraordinary” performance in the air.
But, the recycling was not good at all, as the USA turned over far too much ball, and were saved only by the fact that Canada was just as bad.
“The boys need to take a lesson from that,” said Tolkin.
