John Mitchell

As the Eagles prepare for their three November games, it’s time to review some of the coaching bios of the men who guide the USA. All five are foreigners with significant professional and international rugby in their curriculum vitae.

Head Coach, John Mitchell – A Kiwi who coached the All Blacks to a third place finish in the 2003 Rugby World Cup. A long career as coach of Wakato RFC in New Zealand, a team he captained for 86 games as a high scoring lock. Ironically, the first All Black game he coached was a 40-29 win over Ireland. (This Saturday's contest in Chicago.)

Defense Coach, Phil Greening – Played for London Wasps, and achieved 23 caps for England. Former head coach at Newport Gwent Dragons, a Welsh XV in the Celtic League.

Attack Coach, Mike Friday – Known and respected as the current USA Sevens coach. Former captain of the England 7s. Prior to the USA position, head sevens coach for England and Kenya.

Back Coach, Rob Hoadley – Age 36. Played for many years at London Irish. Defensive coach at London WASPS, and, this year, assistant coach for PRO Rugby’s San Diego Breakers.

Forwards Coach, Marty Veale – A lock who played at Northland. This year, coaching positions at Old Blue RFC, New York, and West Point.
