Carlin Isles will join the Glasgow Warriors soon, and in making that decision will have turned his back on football, for now. Isles joins an ever-increasing list of American rugby players who are playing pro overseas.

Every signing is a coup for the USA as it is difficult for players who don't have European passports, and sometimes for players with European passports who aren't eligible for the local country, to get a spot on the match-day squad.

Every player in a full-time training environment is good for the American game and for the USA, however, it's worth pointing out which players are able to make the most of their time overseas. We have ranked the Eagle-eligible players on pro contracts now, based on the level of play of their league, how often they play, and how well they are playing.

It's a somewhat arbitrary listing based on our own observations (FYI, top pro league is Super Rugby, where no Eagles play at present. If someone were a regular starting on a Super Rugby team and considered one of the team's stars, he would score 150 points).

We chose to include Nick Wallace and Graham Harriman, who are now playing in Canada in the BC Premiership. We chose not to include the players on Seattle-OPSB, who play in the BC DI. We chose, also, not to include Isles as he has not joined his club yet, and therefore it's difficult to judge how much he is playing for the Glasgow Warriors.

The top teams are starting regularly and playing extremely well for very good teams that are successful. No surprise, then, that the top players are Chris Wyles, Samu Manoa, and Scott LaValla.
