The Southwest (including Southern California) sends two teams to Nationals
and it is becoming clearer who those teams might be. Red River will send a
team out of their three division conference while the winner of Arizona/New
Mexico will play the So Cal winner for the other berth.
In Red River, HURT and Little Rock have clinched a final-four spot in the conference playoffs while the third division, filled with DI-B squads has one week of games left.
The Dallas Reds have emerged as the leader of DI-B but have played one more game than the Austin Blacks. The Austin Blacks play their hometown rivals the Austin Huns and barring an upset will take the DI-B division title. Depending on the result, Tulsa, the Reds or the Blacks could be the wildcard.
In the Arizona/New Mexico playoff, both Arizona teams, Tempe and Red Mountain, advanced to the finals with convincing victories. Tempe defeated El Paso 65-7 while Red Mountain downed Albuquerque 46-20 setting up their 3rd meeting of the season. In another tight contest, Tempe completed the trifecta beating Red Mountain 21-17.
Tempe will take on the winner of the Southern California Conference. The semi-finals, which took place last weekend, saw Oceanside defeat Huntington Beach 33-22 and Pasadena easily dispatch the North County Gurkas 62-0.
Pasadena will play Oceanside on April 26th for the right to play
Tempe.
