Towson with ball. Evan Lappen photo

James Madison and Towson are the perceived teams to beat, Rowan shouldn’t be entirely discounted, and Grand Valley State is a complete wildcard. Last year, UW-Whitewater beat Notre Dame College by 30 in the first round of the playoffs. NDC has proven itself, a couple of years in a row, to be better than MARC rival Rowan. James Madison looked every bit as good as Whitewater in the final four last year, so it’s hard to envision the Profs beating JMU, especially at home.

GVSU comes from the Great Lakes, whose 2013 champion had 63 points hung on it in the first round. The Lakers are a new team in a new tournament, but Towson is too good and will advance, setting up the most contentious quarterfinal in the country. James Madison and Towson will provide a battle, but because the Tigers have been in two already this year with Salisbury, I’ve got to think they’re more prepared for the task.
