Wales vs. South Africa

Wales scored an at home 12-6 victory over South Africa, marking only their second win in 30 matches against the Springboks and first since 1999. The Welsh XV suffered 22 successive defeats against the three southern hemisphere powerhouses.

The win boosted Wales’ spirits with hopes now ascendant for a placement in the 2015 Rugby World Cup quarter-finals next autumn. The path ahead will be contested by England and Australia in the most difficult Pool (A) of the tournament.

Wales scored four penalties off of Halfpenny’s foot in a no tries scored match. The Welsh scrum prevented the opposition from gaining much possession.

One of the more interesting plays of the day saw Wales utilize a 13-man lineout in hopes of muscling in near the try line. The odd maneuver failed.

Next up for Wales is England in the opening of the Six Nations tournament.
