While at the Elite City 7s in Philadelphia, Todd Clever got the call to join a team for a match Saturday. As we know now, with the USA's roster for the World Cup being released sans the former captain, the call wasn't regarding the Eagles match with Australia at Soldier Field. It was to join the famous Barbarians in their match against the Worcester Warriors.
After picking up some injuries and losing players for various reasons following the defeat of Samoa Saturday, the Baa Baas were in need of some personnel. Clever was available, and he'll be on the bench Saturday when the touring side gives the Premiership's Worcester Warriors a preseason run.
Clever joins the likes of Paul Emerick, Mike Hercus, Kevin Higgins, Dan Lyle, Tim Usasz, Mike MacDonald and Mike Petri as Eagles to suit up for the Barbarians. The call-up is likely a welcomed distraction from missing out on the RWC squad. The Barbarians are also set to play Gloucester Nov. 17 and Argentina Nov. 21. There's no indication yet if Clever will be involved in those games.
