The HSBC World Rugby 2016/2017 Women’s 7s tournament moves to Kitakyushu, Japan, this weekend (April 22 and 23) for round four. This is the first occasion that Japan has hosted an official Women’s 7s circuit event. It’s part of the national preparation to host the 2019 Rugby World Cup throughout the nation.

After three events, New Zealand lead with 56 points, followed by last year’s victor Australia with 50. The USA stand in fifth place tied with Russia with 34 points. The USA have placed third and fourth in the last two tournaments after a disastrous low placement in the opening Dubai championship.

The matches will take place in the newly built Mikuni World Stadium completed in February 2017. The capacity is listed at near 16,000.

Kitakyushu is the southernmost city of the main island. It numbers a million inhabitants. Tacoma, Washington, and Norfolk, Virginia, are USA sister cities.

The matches will be aired to subscribers on the Rugby Channel.
