The Eagle Women will meet Australia in the quarterfinals tomorrow in the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The game is set for 6 a.m. ET and you can see it live on www. The Rugby Channel.
The matchups for the next round are as follows:
Canada vs. Ireland
Australia vs. USA
Russia vs. France
New Zealand vs. Fiji
The USA lost 19-14 to the Black Ferns in the deciding game for the Pool A championship. The Kiwis led 19-7 at the half, and the USA managed seven points in the second half to close the gap. Naya Tapper scored two tries.
Two statistics emerged from the first thee games:
1. The USA record is 17-16 in the 2016/2017 event, slightly above breakeven;
2. Alev Kelter accomplished her 38th-try of the season, going over 300 total points.
To compete for the Cup and move into the semifinals, the Eagles must defeat the Aussies, former Olympic Gold Medal winners, who are tied with Canada for second place this season. Additonally, Australia achieved the second highest pool point differential of 74 (96-22) behind Canada's 84.
