With summer 7s almost over, fall 15s are here. For the Labor Day weekend, the preseason for the college ranks is in full effect while Women’s Premier League entered its third week of competition. The schedule opens up next weekend as men’s DI club action starts, D1A college continues its ramp-up to the regular season, DII college has a full slate, and the WPL chugs on with four games.
For D1A this weekend, Notre Dame picked up its second victory of the early season by beating Tennessee, 41-24, after an emphatic 47-0 win over Michigan a week ago. Buffalo has also been busy picking up wins over Syracuse and Cortland on consecutive weekends. Lastly, Penn State tested itself against DIAA power Mount St. Mary’s in an extended scrimmage and dominated the Mount, 128-5.
After three weeks of play in the WPL, Berkeley and New York improved to 3-0 and 2-0, respectively. The All Blues defeated Chicago North Shore, 36-29, and New York beat the DC Furies, 44-24. The Atlanta Harlequins won their first match of the season by conquering the Twin Cities Amazons for the first time ever, 53-10. Finally, the Glendale Merlins rode a 46-14 pounding to its first win of the year against ORSU.
