The first rankings of the spring season saw little movement. Only a handful of teams played non-conference matches with all the favorites winning comfortably.
Cal opened its spring campaign with four victories at the Storer Classic. The Bears only yielded one try and scored nearly 30 points in every game despite playing 20 minute shortened halves. In the final game of the weekend, Cal dispatched rivals UCLA 26-0.
St. Mary’s seems to be as potent as ever, bashing Arizona State and Santa Barbara on back-to-back weekends. The newly minted Penn Mutual CRC team will face a tougher test this weekend when Utah comes to town.
Arizona kicked off its season with a 43-17 win over Santa Clara. The Wildcats boast a talented and deep roster but will be put to the test when they play Cal this weekend.
After and up and down fall campaign, Utah opened spring action with a convincing 56-15 win over Dixie State. The Utes, however, will travel to play St. Mary’s and Cal on back-to-back weekends, providing an opportunity to test themselves against two of the best teams in the country.
