Two new teams join the Top 25 this week, and they both hail from south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Louisiana Tech represents the Deep South, and Furman represents the Southern Conference. Both are undefated in league play.

If scores against common opponents mean anything, Furman looks to be closer to UNC-Wilmington than in the recent past, and UNCW has proven itself in the postseason. Louisiana Tech holds a result over UL-Lafayette, which wallopped Spring Hill College on the weekend, indicating the Bulldogs are the team to beat in the Deep South.

Falling out of the rankings to make room for Furman and Louisiana Tech are Holy Cross and Buffalo State, both of whom lost on the weekend.

Losing but clinging to spots in the Top 25 are Georgetown, Coast Guard, Norwich and Northern Iowa. All of them lost to highly ranked teams and play in very good conferences.

UNCW and UW-Stout hop ahead of UNI and Principia, because UNI lost big to Duluth and Principia's score lines are getting closer and closer against suspect teams.

The most intriguing match coming up in DII this week features No. 4 James Madison going up against seventh-ranked Old Dominion for Cardinals Conference dominance.

Question: Who decides promotion / relegation in D2? I ask because I wonder whether UMD (Duluth) wouldn't do well in D1.
We would welcome the opportunity to go to D1 and have played matches against D1 competition outside of our regular season. The two main issues that we have are money and teams to play. The closest teams to us are Minnesota and Wisconsin and they are both in the Big 10. Outside of that, we would have to travel great distances to play other teams in D1 and we don't have the financial support to compete at that level.

Still getting the hang of this commenting system - ignore my second comment. That makes sense. Again - just curious. Seen UMD play multiple times and its clear they're ready to compete at a high level. I mean that in the most positive way possible.

Why the heck am I getting downvoted? I'm not accusing UMD of playing down (as many teams are actually doing these days). They're a seriously good team, and I'm just wondering how the promotion process works.

Vermont didn't lose any games yet... Maybe your mistaking us with coast guard?

How come we can't see the rankings chart??
