Lots of action took place in DII with the round of 16 and eight being played on the same weekend. Tons of ranked opponents faced off and it gave us great insight into our rankings. For the most part, they held up.
Whitewater and Duluth continue to sit atop the rankings and for very good reason. Whitewater cruised through its games in impressive fashion, making it tempting for the Warhawks to move into the top spot. Duluth won, but two tough games, one against Colorado School of the Mines and North Dakota State, make it seem like someone has a shot of knocking off the three time defending champs.
Rowan sat at number three prior to the weekend, but Norwich upended the Jersey school in the round of eight. The Cadets move up to number four, as Furman had two impressive wins to reach the final four and slot in at number three. The Paladins won comfortably over Sacred Heart and NC State.
Then comes the tough part. Where do the rest of the teams fit in? North Dakota State slots in at number five because it played Duluth tough three times this year. Rowan comes in at number six overall, followed by Illinois State, who lost by a mere point to Rowan on Saturday.
Coast Guard slots in at number eight while the pair of Rocky Mountain teams round out the top 10. Both schools played the Northern Lights teams tough and belong in the top 10.
Middlebury moves up to number 14 after beating UNC-Charlotte on Sunday. Charlotte’s stock dropped with a couple of losses, therefore lowering VMI (who lost to Charlotte), and UNC-Wilmington.
Sacred Heart makes its first way into the rankings after beating Southern Connecticut on Sunday. It slots in at number 21.
