We end 2013 in the Men’s College 7s Rankings with our top three relatively unchanged over the past month or so.

Certainly St. Mary’s could lay claim to being #2 as they did beat Cal at one point, but Cal also beat St. Mary’s. Cal’s final results in the PAC 7s pushed them ahead. However, Arkansas State’s consistency and power leave them at #1.

Life drops down thanks to their loss to Central Washington in the quarterfinals of USA Rugby’s championship. Dartmouth moves up after finishing 3rd in Greensboro and beating Central Washington in the process. UCLA slips in between those two, and Davenport and Lindenwood move up on the basis of their performances at the national tournament.

Navy drops down for the same reason, as the Midshipmen lost a disappointing one to Texas on Day Two. The biggest move up is Arizona State. ASU gave St. Mary’s one of their toughest games in Pool Play, and beat all five other opponents they met, including San Diego State.

Jumping in to the Top 25 are Texas, South Carolina, Colorado State, and NC State. All are there because they beat somebody in Greensboro. The bottom eight teams or so are very jumbled, and if they all played in a tournament on a weekend, we wouldn't be surprised if someone like Auburn or San Jose State ended up winning. There is a massive stratification within college 7s at the moment, with the top teams being much, much better than most of the rest.
