The Chicago Blaze pulled off yet another upset in a string of upsets in the Midwest DI club season.
The Blaze were not expected to beat Metropolis, and as they trailed 32-31 with 20 minutes to go, it looked like they would lose, in a spirited way.
But the Blaze got even more spirited than that, scoring 15 points in the final 20 minutes. The Blaze backline was outstanding, with fullback Vidal Martinez scoring four tries and outside center Kevin Garbis scored three.
The upshot of the game was that it had no effect on the DI Midwest-West standings. Metropolis already had the drop on the Chicago Lions due to the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Blaze were stuck in fourth no matter what.
However, it did show that, as had been evident throughout this season, that anyone can beat anyone in the Midwest, given the right circumstances.
