Dallas looked poised to upset the first-place and undefeated Austin Blacks in the first half of their Saturday meeting in the state Capitol. The Blacks scored first, but Dallas outpaced them 14-11 in the first half with an unconverted try and three penalty kicks.

“The first half we played pretty well,” said Dallas coach Jeff Kolberg. “We were real competitive, we played great defense, and we made one stupid mistake.”

Unfortunately for Dallas, they’d make a trifecta of bad mistakes in the beginning of the second half and let the game, which Austin would eventually win 43-18, get out of hand.

“We misplayed the opening kickoff; two minutes later they scored. Two quick turnovers; they scored,” said Kolberg. “Their last score in the second half was at the 63-minute mark, and we decided to get smart again and play…It was just too late.”

With the win, Austin improves to 4-0 in league play and Dallas slips to 4-1.
