The USA 7s team has called for warmup tournaments for some time. It seems they’ve found it, sort of.

A small number of USA players who didn’t make the Pan-Am squad last week went instead to Sri Lanka for the Carlton Super 7s, an event that matches squads of Sri Lankan players with a foreign players to augment the competition.

After the Pan-Am Games was over, several more USA players, as well as USA Head Coach Al Caravelli, joined the event for the 2nd leg.

In the second go-round, the Central Kings rebounded from an iffy 1st day to win the tournament on Day Two. USA wing Justin Boyd was on that team.

The Kings beat the Western Warriors, including Zack Test, 38-5 in the final.

We caught sight of Boyd, Test, Mark Bokhoven, Miles Craigwell, Shalom Suniula, Caravelli, Matt Hawkins and Alipate Tuilevuka at the event. As all these players (under the eye of their coach) looked to get some more playing time in.
