The USA earned a third place bronze medal at the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens tournament. They defeated an improved Samoa 22-10 for the medal, and added 17-points to the 2018/2019 season standings.
The Eagles lead all nations with 130 points, seven ahead of Fiji. Data follow:

The top four nations automatically book a place into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Fiji won their fifth consecutive Hong Kong title defeating France 21-7. It represented the second consecutive tournament that France played in a 7s final, a new high water mark for Les Bleus.
The Eagles started the event poorly, going 1-2 on Day One, with an easy victory over Spain, and then two loses, one to Wales, and the other to England. But the USA rebounded with a quarterfinal win against South Africa 21-12 off of two tries from Carlin Isles, one from Pinkelman, and three conversions from Hughes.
The Eagles failed 28-19 against Fiji in the semis.
Isles ran in nine tries, a record for the Honk Kong event.
Of note also: Ireland secured a 2019/2020 sevens circuit spot by winning the qualifying event 28-7 against host Hong Kong. This will be their first time as a core team.
